Role & Mission

The Winemakers’ Federation of Australia (WFA) is the peak national body for the Australian wine industry.

An independent, not-for-profit organisation funded voluntarily by Australia’s wineries, we exist solely to advance and protect the interests of Australia’s winemakers and represent our members on relevant national and international issues.

Since its inception, WFA has played a leading role in lifting the profile of the Australian wine industry and creating an environment for wine businesses to be sustainable and viable. This is achieved in part by highlighting the wine industry’s achievements and needs to politicians, the media, the financial sector and the public.

WFA’s aim is to present and promote a united, whole-of-industry position based around shared objectives and a common purpose. We respond quickly to changing market conditions and industry demands and make decisions based first and foremost on our members’ input.

Ours is one industry, but with many parts. We have geographic diversity, we have large, medium and small wineries, and we have a member base with a range of different philosophical approaches to how we make and market our wines.

It is the Federation’s role, in conjunction with state and regional bodies, to bring all these facets of our industry together to build a sustainable future for this and future generations.
