Research and Development

  • WFA Submission to GWRDC Five-Year Plan: July 2011 (PDF)

  • Research Prospectus for the Australian Grape and Wine Sector 2010/12 (PDF 3.7MB)

WFA believes strongly that effective research and development will be as important to the wine industry’s future as it was to its recent past, particularly in the areas of viticulture, oenology and market development.

Our priorities are to

  • ensure that returns from R&D activities are maximised and driven by industry demands
  • encourage a high level of industry participation in setting the R&D agenda
  • expand the funding base for R&D by attracting new investors and a broader range of participants.

We work to:

  • provide clear advice to the Government on R&D issues on behalf of the wine industry
  • ensure the industry’s research priorities are clearly stated and meet national and regional needs
  • foster a cooperative approach between industry, researchers, funding bodies and government.

With Wine Grape Growers' Australia we established the Innovation Policy Committee to ensure R&D, especially that funded by industry levy, delivers cost-effective outcomes.
