Packaging

WFA works to identify and manage packaging issues that could damage the wine industry’s reputation by creating problems related to trade regulations, standards, costs or education.

Specifically it has

  • developed Wine Packaging Guidelines to assist small to medium wineries and new entrants to the industry
  • established a Packaging Committee to provide a forum for direct discussion among stakeholders and respond to political, technological, environmental, regulatory and market driven changes in wine, wine product and brandy packaging.

See National Codes and Guidelines - Packaging

Current priorities include:

  • promoting the Wine Packaging Guidelines
  • encouraging cooperation between winemakers and local packaging companies in response to proposed changes to packaging specifications by major national and international distributors
  • working to improve safety levels for packing and transport wine
  • encouraging packaging companies to achieve NATA accreditation
  • providing input into the National Trade Measurement Legislation and Regulations.
