Packaging
WFA works to identify and manage packaging issues related to trade regulations, standards, costs or education to protect the wine industry’s reputation and trade and to keep the industry informed.
Specifically it has
- developed Wine Packaging Guidelines to assist small to medium wineries and new entrants to the industry
- established a
Packaging Committee to provide a forum for direct discussion among stakeholders and respond to political, technological, environmental, regulatory and market driven changes in wine, wine product and brandy packaging.
See National Codes and Guidelines - Packaging
Current priorities include:
- Engagement with international markets with the goal of harmonising packaging requirements
- Investigating costs and opportunities for benchmarking of Whole of Life Packaging Costs
- Monitoring allergen and other mandatory labelling
- Monitoring national and international bottle lightweighting
- Managing implementation of the new Average Quantity System with bottle manufacturers
- Reviewing the Packaging Guidelines
- Monitoring the progress of container deposit legislation and the Australian Packaging Covenant
