Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation

The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC) is an Australian Government statutory authority established in 1981 to provide strategic support to the Australian wine sector. Its mission is: To enhance the operating environment for the benefit of the Australian wine industry by providing the leading role in: market development; knowledge development; compliance; and trade.

The AWBC’s specific services for the wine sector include strategic marketing, information and analysis, export and labelling regulation, advice on trade and market access issues, and the identification and protection of the nation's distinctive wine regions.

The AWBC has its head office in Adelaide and a network of Wine Australia offices in the UK and Ireland, the United States, Canada, continental Europe and Japan.

The www.wineaustralia.com website features a range of statistical information available via winefacts, monthly e-newsletters, information for wine exporters, information about Australia's wine regions, the Australia: world class online educational platform and a wine events calendar.


Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation

The Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC) invests in grape and wine research and development on behalf of the Australian wine industry and the Australian community. The organisation's mission is, 'to realise for Australia the excellent returns available from strategic investment in wine industry research and development'.

Research and development is critical to the growth and development of the industry, as it provides the essential new knowledge and know-how to enable industry to solve production problems and grasp market opportunities. Australia has an excellent reputation as one of the most technologically advanced wine-producing nations in the world. The GWRDC, which is funded by grapegrowers, winemakers and the Federal Government, aims to maintain that competitive edge.

The GWRDC's website contains progress reports and executive summaries for all research projects it funds. From the website, GWRDC's newsletters, annual reports and five-year plan can be downloaded.

Wine Industry Suppliers Australia

Wine Industry Suppliers Australia Inc (WISA) has been  the peak body representing suppliers to the Australian wine industry since its incorporation in July 2000.  WISA provides a range of benefits aimed towards assisting members to achieve the best possible results for their businesses.

Its growing list of activities provides opportunities for the broad spectrum of businesses represented, which comprise local, national and international companies, importers, exporters, manufacturers and service providers.  Its members include suppliers of winery equipment and consumables, viticultural equipment and consumables, packaging equipment and supplies and a wide range of ancillary products and services. 

Australian Wine Research Institute

The Australian Wine Research Institute has been the research provider for the Australian wine industry since 1955. It undertakes strategic and applied research into wine chemistry and microbiology. The Institute provides a unique and highly competent trouble-shooting service and a technical advice group. It provides information on regulatory issues and on "wine and health". It collects, evaluates and disseminates technical information via the John Fornachon Memorial Library; a bi-monthly publication entitled Technical Review; production of an annual report; conduct of "Roadshow" visits to wine regions around Australia ; and the conduct of the triennially held Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference.

The Institute assists the industry develop its human resources by its involvement in the teaching of oenology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and through the conduct of the Advanced Wine Assessment Courses. The Institute also provides a NATA-registered commercial Analytical Service, which provides more than 100 services and can test for more than 30 chemicals.

Cooperative Research Centre for Viticulture

The Cooperative Research Centre for Viticulture (CRCV) has a comprehensive website aimed at providing useful information to grapegrowers, winemakers, scientists and the general public.

The site contains information about the CRCV's research and education and training programs, including the Viticare Initiative and Research to PracticeTM workshops, a list of all projects, a searchable personnel database, its core participants and achievements to date.

CRCV Annual Reports and bi-monthly newsletters can be downloaded and a search can be carried out for published scientific papers, posters and presentations given by CRCV researchers.
