NOS Review

The Review of the National Organisational Structures of the Australian Wine Industry (NOS Review) was undertaken during 2007-08 in line with the recommendation of the Directions to 2025 strategy that strengthening the alignment between the major national wine sector organisations would be an important positive step for the future of the wine industry.

The primary motivation was to ensure that all organisations are fulfilling the needs of the industry with regard to strategy and accountability for funding across a range of issues. These issues include environmental sustainability, research and development, and market development objectives.

The review was overseen by a taskforce comprising the chairs of WFA, the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation (AWBC), Wine Grape Growers Australia (WGGA) and the Grape & Wine Research & Development Corporation (GWRDC).

The review report, released in February 2008, made a strong case for better integration of the functions of the four organisations and questioned whether structural change also was warranted. This proposal was considered during 2008 but the need to retain the AWBC Act and the AWBC compliance functions proved problematic and further discussion was deferred.
