Environmental Sustainability

WFA plays a lead role in the Australian wine industry’s commitment to continually improve its environmental performance. We assist wineries to:

• optimise their operations to ensure resources are used and by-products generated in an ecologically sustainable manner
• meet community and customer expectations
• measure and evaluate performance.

Our major initiatives are:

• EntWine Australia, a voluntary certification scheme comparable with those of other environmentally aware wine producing nations 
• the Australian Wine Carbon Calculator (accessed via the EntWine Australia website).

On behalf of the industry WFA also:

• participates in major international environmental initiatives
• is a signatory to the Federal Government’s Greenhouse Challenge

WFA has a number of environmental policies. Policy direction is provided by the Wine Industry National Environment Committee (WINEC).
