Wine and food are natural partners – a partnership
that extends to tourism, where the lure of fine wine,
great dining, beautiful scenery and a gorgeous place
to stay brings thousands of tourists to Australia’s
cities and regional areas.
With hundreds of small wineries struggling to find
a route to market, and increasing competition among
restaurants for customers and yield, tourism provides
an opportunity to carve a niche in the wine and restaurant
markets and ensure profitability.
The Winemakers’ Federation of Australia in
collaboration with Tourism Australia and Restaurant
& Catering Australia, has initiated this conference
to help wineries, restaurants, food producers and
tour operators recognise and benefit from the opportunities
tourism offers.
“We are working to entice and attract more
people to Australia and an important element of this
is to understand what motivates them and how food
and wine fit into this picture. Tourism has a well-defined
distribution system and wine and food operators can
learn more about this and how they can make inroads
in this area.”
