NOS Review

The Review of the National Organisational Structures of the Australian Wine Industry (the NOS Review) is being undertaken by the peak bodies of the national wine industry with a view to aligning functions and clarifying the roles and responsibilities of each.

This is in line with the Wine Australia: Directions to 2025 strategy, launched in May 2007, which recommended that strengthening the alignment between wine sector organisations would be an important positive step for the future of the wine industry in Australia.

A Task Force, made up of the Chairs of the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia (WFA), the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC), Wine Grape Growers Australia (WGGA), and the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC), was established to oversee this review.

The primary motivation of the NOS Review is to ensure that all wine industry organisations are fulfilling the needs of the sector with regard to strategy and accountability for funding across a range of issues. These issues include environmental sustainability, research and development, and market development objectives.

The review process is designed to be as transparent as possible for all industry members, and late in 2007 feedback was openly invited on a Consultation Paper that was made available to the industry. Following that feedback and a further period of consultation, a Briefing Note is now available for all industry members.

Development of the NOS Review is expected to continue over the next 12 months, with an interim report expected in April 2008.

The NOS Review is about industry and governments working together to create a structural framework that will support the Australian wine industry and guide it towards a profitable, and sustainable, future.
